Frequently Asked QuestionsFAQ about our wooden play structures & more (scroll down page for basketball & trampoline questions)
How much do the play sets cost? We offer a wide variety of play sets with varying price points. Our prices begin at $1999 and go up from there. The price will be determined by the thickness of the lumber and the overall size of the set. Approximately 80% of all the sets we sell are priced between $2500 and $5000. Simply call us or drop by and we will be happy to give you the prices.
How long does it take to get the play set once I have placed my order? As a standard rule of thumb we ask our customers to prepare for it to take up to 30 days from the date they place their order until the set is manufactured, shipped, scheduled and installed in your backyard. However; if you choose a play set that we have in inventory we can get it installed much sooner, in perhaps a few days or a couple weeks, depending on volume of installations already scheduled.
Installation? We typically install 99% of the play sets we sell. There is generally a fee of $399 to $599 to install the play set depending on the size and complexity of installation. However; there are promotions throughout the year that discount the installation charges (see sales & promotions). Our installers are very experienced & skilled specifically for
installing our play sets. While it is not a requirement, we do
recommend having our installers do the installation. If you still prefer to do the installation yourself, the play sets come with installation instructions. All the lumber is pre-cut, pre-drilled, pre-stained and pre-routered to help speed along the installation process.
How long does it take to install? Our installers are very experienced and very good, so amazingly they are able to install most play sets in 3-4 hours. Some structures are very large and could require all day or multiple days, but those are generally the Mega Sets. For those who prefer to do the installation themselves they should expect to spend a full weekend or longer installing the set.
Can the play sets be moved? Yes. They are designed and constructed in a manner that allows for them to be disassembled, moved, and reassembled. FunMakers offers this service for a fee.
Is there any maintenance required with the play sets? In order to keep your play set in top condition, appealing for the kids to play on, and keep the warranty valid, you will need to re-stain the set from time to time. Variables such as weather conditions and amount of use will affect each set differently. In general, it is a good idea to re-stain the set every 2-4 years. Additionally, an annual or semi-annual inspection of the set to tighten any loose nuts is a good idea. Routine cleaning of the plastic components every few months will also reduce the amount of mold and dirt and grime that can naturally occur on a structure that is outside in the elements.
How much space is needed around the play structures for safe play? Generally you would like to have 6' of unobstructed space around the entire structure. While commercial code requires the 6' space, in the state of TN there is no residential code regarding a certain amount of space around the play set. Therefore; if your space is tight you can reduce the amount of spacing in a residential application. We would suggest a minimum of 4' of unobstructed space around the structure. Ask your playground consultant for more details.
Do the play sets meet professional safety standards? Yes. They meet or exceed the high standards for safety set forth by the ASTM and the Consumer Product Safety Commission. That's another advantage to purchasing your set from FunMakers rather than building your own system. While no one would intentionally build a set for their kids that wasn't safe, many safety hazards can go unnoticed by builders who are unaware of hidden dangers such as head entrapment areas, sharp corners, and exposed hardware. Our owner & lead installer are both CPSI certified (Certified Playground Safety Inspectors).
Do the play sets have weight limits? Not specifically. The smaller, lighter systems will show more movement than the larger ones so common sense applies . It is recommended that the smaller sets not be over loaded with adults or teenage age children. The larger, heavy duty frame systems (4'x6" main beams) are built rugged enough for the adults to play on if they wish.
Will the wood splinter? Almost all species of wood will splinter under the right conditions, but some species, such as the Redwood and Cedar used in our play structures, are less likely to splinter than others. To further reduce the risk of splintering our structures go through an intense sanding process which includes rounding of all the edges on the lumber. You will better understand the smoothness of our play surfaces once you have visited our store and rubbed your hands against some of our displays.
Are the tarp roofs durable? Yes. This question is typically asked because of the numerous play sets we have all seen in backyards with faded, dry rotted & ripped tarps. Those tarps are normally made from lite weight, uncoated material that is used on the discount store models. The heavy weight material used on our tarps should eliminate any concerns. There are a variety of color options for the tarps as well as a wooden roof option for those that prefer the attractive, rugged and durable look of a wooden roof. Wooden roofs cost extra on most models.
If our yard is not level will you level it out for us? Depending on the amount of slope you have we may be able to address the issue with a particular model of play set that accounts for slope with extended ladders and swing legs. However; if that is not possible or preferred, then you will need to have a landscaper or excavation company level out the play area. We do not own the heavy equipment required to move large chunks of earth. Ask your playground consultant for more details.
If we have an old swing set, will you haul it away? Yes. We will haul your old swing away for a fee, usually $200-$300 depending on the size of the set.
Whats covered under warranty? The wooden components are warrantied against insect infestation (termites), rot or structural failure for a stated period of time (5yrs or 10yrs) depending on which model you purchase. Surface cracking and chaffing are natural occurrences of wood and are not covered under warranty unless there is significant affect on the structural integrity of the unit. The stain finish on the lumber will wear off or fade in a short period of time depending on the amount of sun it receives and how much use the set gets, but the stain finish is not covered under warranty. Tarps have a 1yr or 5 yr warranty depending on which model you purchase. Ropes & plastic accessory components have a 1 yr warranty. Slides and swings have a 5yr or lifetime warranty depending on which model you purchase. Fading is not covered under the warranty. The warranty is not transferable. Warranty coverage is at the full discretion of the manufactuer. FunMakers serves as a liason only between the customer and the manufacturer. Freight on parts and labor are not covered by warranty.
